* The passive whitelist effect activates permanently the moment the skill is learned — there is no need to keep the buff active for the whitelist to work.
* The unlocks do not require the buff to be running, so points spent here pay off even if the Monk never casts it. The buff itself is bought for the movement, and for a Champion also for the Stone Fist bonus.
* The buff itself (the movement override) must be cast before or during Steel Body to benefit from free movement.
* Duration is the main reason to push past the unlock levels: at level 10 a single cast covers most of a maximum-length Steel Body.
* Tempered Will's 1-second fixed cast time means it can be used inside Steel Body without worrying about DEX-based cast time reduction.
* Recasting inside Steel Body is cheap, so the buff can be refreshed as the stance runs on.
* The 2-sphere cost and high SP cost of 50 require planning around available spheres.
* Level 5 is the gate for [[Stone Fist]], which makes it the natural stopping point for a Champion who only wants the tanking payoff.

Tempered Will

Overview

Tempered Will is a custom Vortex Legends skill and the piece that makes a fighting tank possible. Simply learning it re-opens a set of skills that Steel Body would otherwise block, and the list grows with the level learned. Casting the buff goes one step further, giving back normal movement speed while the iron stance holds.

Mechanics

Unlocks (from the learned level, no buff required). While Steel Body is active, these skills may be cast:

Learned level Skills usable under Steel Body
1 Tempered Will, Call Spirits, Triple Strike
3 Investigate, Dangerous Soul Collect
5 Chain Combo, Stone Fist
7 Finger Offensive, Palm Strike
9 Gentle Touch - Cure, Combo Finish

Each tier adds to the previous one, so a Monk with level 9 can use the whole list. Dangerous Soul Collect, Stone Fist and Palm Strike belong to the Champion class line.

Buff effect (while active). Movement speed returns to normal despite Steel Body's slow.

The skill can only be cast while Steel Body is active, and the buff ends the moment Steel Body ends. Its 1-second cast cannot be interrupted and is not shortened by DEX.

For a Champion the buff does more than restore movement: Stone Fist is far stronger while it is running, provokes the monsters it hits and grants a stacking damage reduction. That bonus uses the level the buff was cast at, not the level learned.

Leveling

Level SP cost Duration Unlocks at this level
1 12 30 s Call Spirits, Triple Strike
2 14 40 s —
3 16 50 s Investigate, Dangerous Soul Collect
4 18 60 s —
5 20 70 s Chain Combo, Stone Fist
6 22 80 s —
7 24 90 s Finger Offensive, Palm Strike
8 26 100 s —
9 28 110 s Gentle Touch - Cure, Combo Finish
10 30 120 s —

Notes

  • The unlocks do not require the buff to be running, so points spent here pay off even if the Monk never casts it. The buff itself is bought for the movement, and for a Champion also for the Stone Fist bonus.
  • Duration is the main reason to push past the unlock levels: at level 10 a single cast covers most of a maximum-length Steel Body.
  • Recasting inside Steel Body is cheap, so the buff can be refreshed as the stance runs on.
  • Level 5 is the gate for Stone Fist, which makes it the natural stopping point for a Champion who only wants the tanking payoff.
