Steel Body
Overview
Steel Body hardens the Monk into a defensive stance that shrugs off both weapons and magic. The protection is enormous, but so is the cost: attack speed drops, movement is reduced to a crawl, and almost every skill becomes unusable while the stance holds. Tempered Will is the answer to that trade, lifting part of the lock for a Monk who invests in it.
Mechanics
The defensive bonus is applied after equipment and other modifiers, then capped.
- Defense and Magic Defense: +50 each, capped at 90
- Attack speed: −25%
- Movement: reduced to a fixed slow pace
- Skills: most skills cannot be cast while the stance is active
Because the bonus is added on top of existing defense and then capped, a Monk who already carries heavy armour gains less from it than a lightly armoured one, but everyone ends at the same ceiling.
Interaction with Tempered Will. Learning Tempered Will re-enables a short list of skills under Steel Body, and the list grows with its level. Activating the Tempered Will buff additionally restores normal movement speed for as long as it lasts. Steel Body ending also ends Tempered Will.
The cast cannot be interrupted by damage.
Leveling
| Level | Duration |
|---|---|
| 1 | 40 s |
| 2 | 80 s |
| 3 | 120 s |
| 4 | 160 s |
| 5 | 200 s |
Defense, magic defense, attack speed and movement are identical at every level; only the duration grows.
Notes
- The 5 spheres and 100 SP have to be paid up front, so the stance is planned before a fight rather than used as a panic button.
- Level 3 is the prerequisite for Tempered Will.
