Back Stab is the Rogue's ambush strike, dashing behind a target to hit it from its blind side. It can be used straight out of Hiding, and opening from stealth makes it far more likely to stun.

Overview

Back Stab teleports the Rogue directly behind the target and delivers a heavy physical blow before the enemy can react. It hits multiple times, and hits an extra time when the Rogue wields a dagger, making the dagger the weapon of choice for this skill. Because it can be cast while Hidden, it is the classic way to open a fight on the Rogue's terms. Using it ends the Rogue's Hiding.

Mechanics

The Rogue repositions behind the target, then strikes for weapon-element physical damage. The skill lands two hits by default, or three hits with a dagger equipped, and each hit uses the same ratio.

Damage formula (per hit): 100 + 20 × SkillLv (% of ATK)

On hit the target may be Stunned. The chance is 5% normally, but rises when the strike comes out of Hiding:

Stun chance from Hiding: 5 + 2 × SkillLv (%)

After the blow lands the Rogue's Hiding is cancelled. The strike reaches up to 4 cells, letting the Rogue close from just outside melee range.

Leveling

Level Damage per hit Hits (dagger) Stun from Hiding SP
1 120% 2 (3) 7% 12
2 140% 2 (3) 9% 12
3 160% 2 (3) 11% 13
4 180% 2 (3) 13% 13
5 200% 2 (3) 15% 14
6 220% 2 (3) 17% 14
7 240% 2 (3) 19% 15
8 260% 2 (3) 21% 15
9 280% 2 (3) 23% 16
10 300% 2 (3) 25% 16

Outside Hiding the Stun chance is a flat 5% at every level.

Notes

Back Stab is best used from Hiding, both for the higher Stun chance and because the Rogue can approach unseen. A dagger adds a third hit, so dagger builds get noticeably more damage out of it. It pairs well with Gangster's Paradise, which adds bonus damage against a target that is already Stunned or otherwise impaired.
