The Knight Quest is the job change quest that turns a Swordman into a Knight. The whole quest takes place inside the Prontera Chivalry, where six Knights each run a trial of their own: an item collection, a knowledge quiz, a three stage combat trial, an etiquette test, a test of patience and a closing interview. When all of them have approved you, the Chivalry Captain performs the job change.

There is a shortcut. A Swordman who has reached Job Level 50 can change class straight away by talking to the captain, with no trials at all. Starting the quest earlier does not lock you in: if you reach Job Level 50 while the quest is open, the captain still changes you on the spot.

Requirements

Requirement Detail
Class Swordman. Novices are sent to the Swordman Guild in Izlude first.
Job Level 40 to apply for the trials. At Job Level 50 the trials are skipped entirely.
Skill points All skill points must be spent. The captain refuses to perform the job change while you have unused points, on both the quest path and the Job Level 50 shortcut.
Preparation Potions, decent armour and a weapon you are comfortable with, for the combat trial.

The Knights and where they stand

Every NPC is inside the Prontera Chivalry. The entrance is in the north-west of Prontera (prontera 45, 346) and leads into the hall the Knights use.

Knight Location Role
Capitán Herman prt_in 88, 101 Chivalry Captain. Application and final job change.
Sir Andrew prt_in 75, 107 First trial, item collection.
Sir Siracuse prt_in 71, 91 Second trial, knowledge quiz.
Sir Windsor prt_in 79, 94 Third trial, combat.
Amy Beatrice prt_in 69, 107 Fourth trial, etiquette.
Sir Edmond prt_in 70, 99 Fifth trial, patience.
Sir Gray prt_in 87, 92 Final interview. Also forges Claymores for Knights.

The trials must be taken in that order. Each Knight turns you away until the previous one has passed you, and the captain will remind you who is next if you get lost.

Step 1: Apply with the captain

The Chivalry Captain waits behind the counter at the back of the hall.

Talk to Capitán Herman (prt_in 88, 101) and say you want to change your class to Knight, then confirm the application. Below Job Level 40 he sends you back out to fight. At Job Level 40 or higher he explains the procedure and points you to Sir Andrew.

At Job Level 50 the conversation is much shorter: he approves you immediately, changes your class and hands over the reward.

Step 2: Sir Andrew, the collection

Sir Andrew hands out the material list.

Sir Andrew (prt_in 75, 107) tests loyalty by sending you out for materials. He picks one of two sets at random, and each item is needed five times.

Set 1 Set 2
5 Elder Pixie's Moustache 5 Bug Leg
5 Wing of Red Bat 5 Heart of Mermaid
5 Orcish Voucher 5 Maneater Blossom
5 Moth Dust 5 Clam Flesh
5 Reptile Tongue 5 Old Frying Pan
5 Mane 5 Snail's Shell

Which set you get is fixed once he tells you the list, so there is no point in trying to reroll it. Bring everything back to him and he takes the items and sends you on to Sir Siracuse. Talking to him again repeats the list if you forget it.

If you happen to be at Job Level 50 when you first ask him for the trial, he waives the collection and passes you straight to Sir Siracuse.

Step 3: Sir Siracuse, the quiz

Sir Siracuse runs the knowledge quiz.

Sir Siracuse (prt_in 71, 91) asks eight questions in a row: five about Knight mechanics, three about attitude. A single wrong answer ends the quiz, but you can talk to him again and retake it from the beginning as often as you like.

# Question Correct answer
1 Which of these weapons is not affected by Two Hand Quicken? Flamberge
2 Which skill is not required to learn Bowling Bash? Provoke Lv.10
3 Which skill is not required to learn Brandish Spear? Spear Boomerang Lv.3
4 Which spear can damage a Nightmare, a Ghost element monster? Zephyrus
5 What attack speed do you keep with Cavalier Mastery Lv.3? 80% of normal speed
6 What should you do when a Novice asks for help in town? Suggest a good hunting spot
7 How should you behave in a party? Protect everyone on the front line
8 What is the most important value for a Knight? Honor

Passing sends you to Sir Windsor.

Step 4: Sir Windsor, the combat trial

Sir Windsor walks you into the testing hall.

Sir Windsor (prt_in 79, 94) says almost nothing. Tell him Sir Siracuse sent you and he walks you into the Chivalry testing hall.

Inside, Knight Windsor explains the rules and can send you back to town if you change your mind. To begin, join the waiting room chat next to him (Sala de Espera). Only one attempt runs at a time, so if someone else is already inside you have to wait for the room to reopen.

The trial is three stages, each with a three minute limit. Clearing a stage warps you to the next one immediately.

Stage Monsters
1 4 Dustiness, 2 Andre, 2 Piere, 2 Deniro, 2 Argos
2 2 Desert Wolf, 4 Anacondaq, 2 Frilldora, 4 Drainliar
3 All five kinds of Goblin, 1 Goblin Archer, 1 Steam Goblin

Every monster in a stage has to die. If the three minutes run out you are sent back to the Chivalry with no penalty beyond the lost time, and you can ask Sir Windsor for another run straight away. Clearing the third stage sends you to Amy Beatrice.

Step 5: Amy Beatrice, the etiquette test

Amy Beatrice grades your manners by the fireplace.

Amy Beatrice (prt_in 69, 107) tells a long story about a hunting trip and stops ten times to ask what you would do. You may get at most one answer wrong; two mistakes fail the test, and she lets you retake it from the start.

# Situation Accepted answer
1 Looking for a party in Morroc Open a chat and wait, or look for people who want a Knight. Do not shout for a party.
2 The party arrives at Pyramids level 4 Explore the area and plan, or take the front and lead slowly. Do not lure monsters for the party.
3 Rude players drag a mob onto your party and vanish Defend while the party retreats.
4 A collapsed stranger politely asks for help Ask your party's Priest to help.
5 You find a rare item during the fight Give it to whoever deserves it most, or decide with the party. Do not quietly keep it.
6 Selling that item among the shops of Prontera Ask whether anyone is interested.
7 Someone walks up and begs you for zeny and items Suggest a place to level.
8 You meet somebody who is lost Tell them the way out, or guide them yourself. Do not just hand over a Butterfly Wing.
9 Your HP is red and a Priest walks past Could you heal me, please?
10 A rare item is lying on the ground on your way home Ask who it belongs to, or leave it. Do not pick it up and keep it.

A clean run earns you her best recommendation to the captain. Passing sends you to Sir Edmond.

Step 6: Sir Edmond, the test of patience

Sir Edmond sends you into the room where doing nothing is the whole test.

Sir Edmond (prt_in 70, 99) warns you not to kill anything for no reason, then warps you into a small room ringed with 4 Porings, 4 Lunatics and 4 Chonchons, with a few Mushrooms further out.

The whole test is to do nothing. Sit down and wait. The exit opens on a five minute cycle, so the wait can be anything up to five minutes depending on when you walk in, and stepping on it when it appears completes the trial and returns you to the Chivalry.

Killing any of those monsters fails the trial instantly. You are scolded and dumped in Prontera field, and you have to walk back and apologise to Sir Edmond to try again. Turn off anything that retaliates automatically before you go in, and keep away from the Mushrooms in the corners.

Step 7: Sir Gray, the interview

Sir Gray closes the quest with a conversation.

Sir Gray (prt_in 87, 92) calls it a chat rather than a test. He asks two questions, each with a follow-up that depends on your first answer, and he weighs the whole conversation. He forgives one questionable answer, but a greedy one sinks the interview on its own. Failing simply means coming back and talking to him again.

Why did you decide to become a Knight?

Answer Follow-up Safe reply
To become stronger What is the value of a Knight's strength to you? To protect myself, or to protect others. Never wealth and fame.
To help my guild How can you help your guild? My guild needs me, or I can protect my companions. Never by raising funds.
Because I am not satisfied with myself What are you unsatisfied with? Goals. This is the only combination in this branch that leaves no doubt behind.

If you became a Knight right now, what would you do first?

Answer Follow-up Safe reply
I would go straight into combat And then? To test my skills, or to face greater challenges. Avoid wanting to grow quickly.
There are people waiting for me Who is waiting for you? Friends, guild or partner. All three are fine.
I would learn more about Knights What do you plan to learn? The ways of the Knight. Never ways to make money, which fails the interview by itself.

Passing sends you back to the captain for the verdict.

Step 8: The verdict

Return to Capitán Herman (prt_in 88, 101) and he polls every Knight who tested you. All of them approve, he adds his own approval, and the job change happens.

Rewards

  • Job change to Knight
  • Charge Attack at level 1
  • Riding at level 1, which lets a Knight mount a Peco Peco
  • 3 Awakening Potions when you finish the trials, or 7 Awakening Potions when you take the Job Level 50 shortcut

Both skills are granted permanently and cost no skill points.

After the change

Sir Gray forges a Claymore for Knights of the Chivalry. He asks for 74,000 zeny and 1 Steel, and you need enough free weight for a heavy two-handed sword before he will start.

Tips

  • If you are already close to Job Level 50, the shortcut is faster than the trials and pays a larger reward. Compare the two before you apply.
  • Collect the materials for Sir Andrew with the set list in front of you. The two sets share no items, so anything you gather in advance may be wasted.
  • Everything you turn in to Sir Andrew is consumed, so do not bring extras you want to keep.
  • For the combat trial, most of the first stage is Earth element and most of the second is Fire element, so a fire endowment for stage one and a water endowment for stage two help a lot. Stage three is a mix and a plain weapon does fine.
  • The stage timer is short. Fight from the middle of the arena and pull the far spawns in rather than chasing them one by one.
  • Before the patience test, unequip or disable anything that hits back on its own, and simply sit still.
  • The tests can be retaken as often as needed. Nothing except your time is lost when a trial fails.
