The effect always succeeds against a valid target and does not scale with skill level, since the skill has only one level.

Magnitude formula:
* Magic attack increased by 20 × SkillLv percent
* Magic defense reduced by 12 × SkillLv percent

Success chance: 55 + 5 × SkillLv percent (60% at level 1 up to 80% at level 5).

A successful cast also immediately cancels the target's current cast. If the target is a monster, it is forced to turn its aggression toward the Professor.

The skill fails outright (consuming nothing) against targets that are immune to status effects, against Undead-element targets, and against a target that is already under Mind Breaker.
The cast interrupts whatever the target was doing. Mind Breaker cannot be applied to Undead-element targets or to monsters immune to status effects (most bosses), and reapplying it to a target that already carries the debuff silently fails without consuming SP or the catalyst.

Mind Breaker overloads a single target's magical mind, boosting its magic attack while shattering its magic defense.

Overview

Mind Breaker is a debuff that makes an enemy far more vulnerable to magic. It raises the target's own magic attack power while lowering its magic defense, turning it into an easy mark for the Professor's spells (or a teammate's) at the cost of also making its own magic hit harder. It is best reserved for melee threats or bosses that don't cast, where the increased magic attack never comes back around on you.

Mechanics

On a successful cast, the target gains the Mind Breaker status for 30 seconds. While affected, its magic attack is increased by 50% and its magic defense (both hard and soft) is reduced by 25%. The effect always succeeds against a valid target and does not scale with skill level, since the skill has only one level.

The cast interrupts whatever the target was doing. Mind Breaker cannot be applied to Undead-element targets or to monsters immune to status effects (most bosses), and reapplying it to a target that already carries the debuff silently fails without consuming SP or the catalyst.

Requirements

Learning Mind Breaker requires Job level 50 and Spell Enchanting at level 5. Casting it consumes 80 SP and 1 Blue Gemstone.

Notes

Because Mind Breaker raises the target's own magic attack, it is a poor choice against enemies that rely on heavy magic themselves, since it will make their spells hit harder too. Reserve it for melee threats or magic attackers you intend to burst down before they get another cast off.
