Magic Rod raises a brief magical guard that absorbs an incoming single-target spell, nullifying its damage and converting part of its energy into SP.
Overview
Magic Rod is a self-buff with a very short active window. If a single-target magic attack lands on the Sage while the guard is up, that spell deals no damage and the Sage instead gains SP based on the absorbed spell's SP cost.
Mechanics
While Magic Rod is active, an incoming single-target spell is fully negated and the Sage recovers SP equal to a percentage of the spell's SP cost.
SP gained formula: (20 × SkillLv)% of the absorbed spell's SP cost: 20% / 40% / 60% / 80% / 100% at Levels 1–5.
Higher levels both lengthen the guard window and increase the SP returned, up to a full refund of the absorbed spell's cost at Level 5.
Leveling
| Level | Active window | SP returned (of absorbed cost) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0.4 s | 20% |
| 2 | 0.6 s | 40% |
| 3 | 0.8 s | 60% |
| 4 | 1.0 s | 80% |
| 5 | 1.2 s | 100% |
Notes
Magic Rod only absorbs single-target spells; it does not block area-of-effect or ground-placed magic. Timing the short window against an enemy's cast is the key to using it well.
