Root

Overview

Root (Blade Stop) is a counter-stance that traps both the Monk and an attacking enemy in a mutual lock the moment an enemy strikes. Once locked, neither party can move, and the Monk gains access to powerful follow-up options depending on skill level.

Mechanics

Casting Root puts the Monk in a brief wait state lasting 0.5–1.3 seconds (Lv 1–5). If any enemy physically attacks the Monk during this window, the mutual Blade Stop lock triggers:

  • Both the Monk and the attacker are immobilized.
  • The lock lasts 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 seconds (Lv 1–5).

While in the lock, the Monk may use certain follow-up attacks to break out, depending on Blade Stop level:

When breaking out with one of these skills, Asura Strike launched from Blade Stop costs one fewer spirit sphere than normal.

The lock also ends for both parties if either one moves outside range or a status-change ends it through other means (e.g., Occult Impaction or Throw Spirit Sphere always cancel Blade Stop on the caster when they connect).

Leveling Table

Level Wait Window Lock Duration Break-out Options
1 0.5 s 20 s (none)
2 0.7 s 30 s (none)
3 0.9 s 40 s Occult Impaction
4 1.1 s 50 s Occult Impaction, Throw Spirit Sphere
5 1.3 s 60 s Occult Impaction, Throw Spirit Sphere, Asura Strike

Notes

  • Root must be manually activated — the Monk decides when to brace for a counter.
  • The wait window is very short, requiring good timing or preparation before an expected hit.
  • Both parties are locked simultaneously; even the attacker cannot move or act freely until the lock ends.
  • Boss-class monsters cannot trigger the Blade Stop lock in standard situations.
