Spider Web traps a target in sticky webbing, pinning it in place and leaving it dangerously exposed to fire.

Overview

Spider Web throws a web onto an enemy, immobilizing it and slashing its ability to dodge. While ensnared, the target also takes double damage from Fire-element attacks, making the web a powerful setup for fire magic such as Fire Bolt or Meteor Storm. The trap is a favorite combo opener for Professors and fire Wizards working together.

Mechanics

The web is placed on the target as a ground trap. The first web roots the target in place for about 8 seconds, while the web tile itself lingers on the ground for up to 16 seconds. Up to three separate webs can be stacked on the same target to extend how long it stays pinned.

While caught, the target is rooted and its evasion drops sharply.

Magnitude:

  • Flee reduced by 50% while ensnared
  • Fire-element damage taken is doubled (×2)

The web is consumed when the trapped target is struck by a Fire attack: that hit deals its doubled damage and then the web breaks, freeing the target. The web is also dispersed by Fire Rain.

Catalysts and requirements

Costs 50 SP and consumes 1 Cobweb per cast.

Notes

Because a single Fire-element hit both deals double damage and immediately ends the web, time fire spells deliberately: a non-fire follow-up keeps the target webbed, while a fire hit cashes in the double damage and releases it. Stacking additional webs on a target that is already caught extends how long it remains rooted.
