Soul Burn is a high-risk Professor skill that wipes an enemy player's entire SP pool, but punishes the caster severely when it misfires.

Overview

When cast, Soul Burn attempts to violently drain a single enemy player's spiritual energy, instantly reducing its SP to zero. It only works on other players: it cannot be used on monsters. The attempt is not guaranteed: if it fails, the spell rebounds and the caster's own SP is destroyed instead. At the highest level the skill also inflicts magic damage scaled to the amount of SP it consumes.

Mechanics

Soul Burn rolls a success chance each time it is cast. On success the target loses 100% of its current SP. On failure the backlash drains 100% of the caster's own SP.

Success chance by level: 40% / 50% / 60% / 70% / 70%.

At level 5 only, a successful cast additionally deals magic damage to the target, and a failed cast deals that same magic damage to the caster.

Damage formula (level 5 only): Magic damage = target's current SP × 2

Because the damage is based on the SP that was present before the burn, a target with a large SP pool takes correspondingly heavy damage. The skill ignores the target's defensive cards, the elemental modifier, and offensive attack cards.

Leveling

Level Success chance Effect on hit SP cost Cooldown
1 40% Burns 100% of target SP 80 10s
2 50% Burns 100% of target SP 90 10s
3 60% Burns 100% of target SP 100 10s
4 70% Burns 100% of target SP 110 10s
5 70% Burns 100% of target SP + magic damage equal to twice the SP burned 120 15s

Notes

Soul Burn is a player-versus-player tool: it has no effect on monsters. A failed cast is genuinely dangerous: it empties the Professor's own SP bar, and at level 5 it also turns the level-5 damage back on the caster. Use it when the reward of denying an enemy its SP (and, at level 5, the burst damage) is worth the risk of self-inflicted backlash.
