Polymorph transforms a single enemy into a harmless Poring, leaving it to wander helplessly for the duration.
Overview
Polymorph is a control spell unique to the VortexRo Sage line. The target is turned into a Poring: it cannot attack and cannot use skills, it shuffles around aimlessly, and it slowly recovers health while transformed. Any damage dealt to the target immediately breaks the spell, so Polymorph is used to neutralize a dangerous target rather than to soften it for a kill. It deals no damage of its own.
Mechanics
The caster targets one enemy within 9 cells; the spell costs one Red Gemstone and deals no damage. On a successful cast the target becomes a Poring and is afflicted with the Polymorph state for the duration:
- It cannot attack and cannot cast any skill.
- It wanders with randomized movement, the same way a confused unit does, and drops whatever it was attacking (monsters become passive).
- It regenerates health every second: 15% of its maximum HP per second at levels 1–2, and 20% per second at levels 3–5.
- Any damage at all removes the effect instantly and restores the original sprite.
Only one Polymorph may be active per caster at a time — casting it on a new target ends the one on your previous target.
Duration depends on what is transformed:
- Ordinary monsters: (5 + 5 × SkillLv) seconds, i.e. 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 seconds.
- Players and demi-human monsters: (1.5 + 0.5 × SkillLv) seconds, i.e. 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5 / 4 seconds.
Catalysts and requirements
Each cast consumes 1 Red Gemstone.
Leveling
| Level | SP cost | Monster duration | Player / demi-human duration | Regen per second |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 20 | 10 sec | 2.0 sec | 15% max HP |
| 2 | 25 | 15 sec | 2.5 sec | 15% max HP |
| 3 | 30 | 20 sec | 3.0 sec | 20% max HP |
| 4 | 35 | 25 sec | 3.5 sec | 20% max HP |
| 5 | 40 | 30 sec | 4.0 sec | 20% max HP |
Notes
- Diminishing returns: repeated Polymorphs on the same target are progressively weaker. The first lands at full duration, the second at half, the third at a quarter, and the fourth attempt within the window is immune and fails. The window resets 18 seconds after the last successful cast. This applies per target across all casters.
- Immunities: MVP bosses, mini-bosses (status-immune monsters), and Guardians cannot be Polymorphed.
- Instances: Polymorph is disabled inside instance maps.
- The shorter duration table covers both real players and demi-human monsters, making the spell far briefer against humanoid enemies than against ordinary monsters.
