Energy Coat wraps the caster in a barrier of magic energy that mitigates incoming physical damage at the cost of SP.

Overview

Energy Coat is a self-buff that turns SP into survivability. While active, physical attacks deal less damage, but each blow drains a portion of the caster's SP. The more SP remaining, the stronger the barrier, so the protection weakens as SP runs low. It is learned through a quest.

Mechanics

Each physical hit taken is reduced and consumes a percentage of the caster's Max SP. Both the reduction and the SP cost scale in tiers based on the caster's current SP percentage — higher SP means stronger mitigation but a larger SP cost per hit.

Effect formula:

  • Damage reduction: 30% (at high SP) down to 6% (at low SP).
  • SP used per hit: 3% (at high SP) down to 1% (at low SP) of Max SP.

The buff lasts 300 seconds. It is toggled off by recasting, and it ends automatically when SP is depleted.

Notes

  • Reduces physical damage only.
  • Recasting while active turns the barrier off.
  • Because the barrier weakens as SP drops, it is strongest when the caster keeps SP topped up.
